Fucking Comics 11/4/09

This week's books were all sorta lame. The weeks I skipped writing about were a mix of cool and lame.

Pull List:

Basically, none of them did much for me except Secret Six. It was guest written by John Ostrander and focused on Deadshot and his uncontrollable murderousness. Secret Six continues to be one of my favorite books and has yet to disappoint, even with a guest writer.

Not relevant to this week, but Superman Secret Origins also kicks ass.

I also picked up Batman Unseen (Doug Moench and Kelley Jones) and Batman: The Widening Gyre (Kevin Smith, Walter Flanagan and Art Thibert). Batman Unseen was okay. Kelley Jones' artwork bugs the shit out of me. I hate the way he draws the Batcave and its equipment. I fucking hate the random, baffling poses he puts Batman in during dialog scenes. It's as if he's personified Shatner's fucked up vocal acting via Batman. It makes me stabby.

Ok. Batman: The Widening Gyre may be the biggest piece of shit I've ever purchased. Why did I buy another fucking issue? I swore I wouldn't but then I did. Kill me now please. The first four pages were so fucking bad that I stopped reading it and actually worked on my goddamn dissertation instead of finishing it. It took hours before I could force myself through the rest of it.

This is perhaps one of the worst pages of Batman dialog I've ever read. (Warning: Large image file).

"Business, Robin. Mind it."? Suddenly Batman is a 12-year-old girl? Is he going to text his BFF, Jill, next?

The Robin art sucks too.

And you know what really sucks? I'll probably buy the last three because I hate having missing issues. God damn it so much. I hope you're fucking happy, DC.

Sarah Palin: Dumb as Dirt

Shamelessly stolen from Palin attacks Obama and Biden for their 'lack of experience' -- and can't tell us why she can do the job better

O'Reilly: Let me be bold and fresh again. Do you believe you are smart enough, and incisive enough, intellectual enough, to handle the most powerful job in the world?

Palin: I believe that I am because I have common sense, and I have, I believe, the values that are reflective of so many American values. And I believe that what Americans are seeking is not the elitism, the, um, the, ah -- kind of spineless -- a spinelessness that perhaps is made up for that with elite Ivy League education and -- fact resume that's based on anything but hard work and private-sector, free-enterprise principles. Americans could be seeking something like that in positive change in their leadership. I'm not saying that that has to be me.

I've payed attention to Palin in the media since everyone else did, when the disingenuous GOP thrust this brain-dead parasite onto the national political scene. I've impatiently waited for the end of her 15 minutes ever since.

Why do people take this idiot seriously? Do people hear her speak and actually think, "This is the sort of person our country needs!"

What's her appeal? You're a dumbfuck and I am too?

Is the Right in this country too stupid to be insulted by this moron and the party that supports her?

Blackest Night Rings

Also, Green Lantern #48 and Blackest Night #5 kicked ass today.

Here's what else I bought:

Fuck Yes: BN #5, Detective #859, GL #48, Superman: Secret Origin #3
Yes: Superman #694, Ultimate Avengers #4, Wonder Woman #38
Meh: Arkham Reborn #2, JLA #39, Justice League: Cry for Justice #5, World's Finest #2
Fuck No: Gotham City Sirens #6

Random Comments
Blackest Night is moving along nicely now. It seems like the story has picked up quite a bit, though I'm not looking forward to the upcoming spin-offs. This last issue was pretty damn good, as have been the issues of Green Lantern. Of course, Kyle fans may still be crying over the last issue of GLC. It didn't really bother me though.

I recently read through the five released issues of Flash: Rebirth in one sitting. I didn't really care for these when I initially read them. I've never been a Flash fan. I was reading them as they were published. In one sitting, though, I was surprised to find that I actually liked the story. I doubt I'll be picking up any Flash titles after Rebirth is finished though.

Gotham City Sirens is the wort Bat-title out there. This thing needs to get way better or get canceled.

Detective, despite the absence of Batman, has been a favorite of mine. I hope that once Bruce Wayne returns, we'll still get a title with Batwoman in it. The art is fantastic and I'm enjoying the story. The Question backup story has been good too. Unfortunately, this one has Huntress in it. I fucking hate Huntress. I wish DC would kill her off.

If you're not reading Superman: Secret Origin, you're missing out.
