I really need to think of a better title for these comic book entries. Comics [date] is pretty lame or even shitty, if you will. Then again, why mess with tradition? I'd hate to betray my shitty blog roots.
Here's what I bought this week.
Wall of text with possible spoilers below the fold.
Batman: Widening Gyre #2 (of 6): This is another mini-series by Kevin Smith. It sucks. I can't get into this at all. I was so ready for this issue to be over that I don't even remember what the last half was about. I'm dropping this.
Blackest Night: Titans #2 (of 3): Another Blackest Night tie-in. Mango called issue #1 unreadable or something like that. This was better, maybe, but still not very interesting. Part of my problem is that I just don't care about these characters. As you can see on the cover, Donna Troy is confronted by her zombie family, including Baby Zombie. For some reason, she ignores subtle clues, such as their rotting zombie flesh, her husband's missing eye, and her baby's Black Lantern eyes, that suggest something isn't right. She's unfazed that the rotten little fucker floats through the air as well. Baby Zombie bites her on the neck because, well, it's a zombie and that's what they do. So Donna Troy, apparently, is a moron.
Then, some other stuff happens. Oh. Titans fight Black Lanterns
Next we see Hawk and Dove fighting Black Lantern Hawk as they were at the end of #1. BL Hawk kills Hawk by ripping her heart out. Fair enough. That's sorta the Black Lanterns' schtick. But here's the weird part. It seems the formerly living Hawk (Holly) kept her heart in her left tit.

Um..what the fuck? That's not where the heart goes. Maybe is this a consequence Final Crisis? The Multiverse is an odd place if so.
Is Black Lantern Hawk saying "oh, yes" because he's excited he killed someone or because after being dead he finally got some boob? Or maybe he's excited he got lucky with the left lateral tit maul and found her heart accidentally? Maybe it's all three.
The look on Dove's face? She's surprised as the rest of us.
For whatever reason, BL Hawk #1 still can't get a read on Dove's emotional state.
Of course, Holly Hawk becomes Black Lantern Hawk #2, but not before we're shown an image of Corpse Holly Hawk. Guess what. Her heart's exit wound has moved.

Again, what the fuck? Does this count as a retcon? I'm confused.
After that some more fighting happens. Well, Donna Troy doesn't really fight her family. They just creep toward her menacingly. Donna Troy's nasty Baby Zombie wound on her neck does something to her and her eyes turn Black Lanterny. Is she dead? Possessed? I don't know. Good thing she wasn't still breastfeeding or Baby Zombie might have sucked her tit heart right through her nipple.
The last page closes with: Next issue...it gets even worse.
I can't imagine how.
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? #4 (of 24): I didn't realize this would be 24 issues when I picked up the first three. Now I'm on #4. It's a comic book retelling, word for word, of Phillip K. Dick's novel of the same name. You know, the one they based Bladerunner on? If this story or Bladerunner is your thing, you should get it. The art is good.
Final Crisis Aftermath: Ink #5 (of 6): One more issue. I can't wait until this is over.
Gotham City Sirens #4: I want to like this. I've tried to like this. Catwoman and Poison Ivy could be interesting characters. Harley? Not so much. It doesn't matter, because they're not interesting here at all. To top that off, the Joker makes his first post-R.I.P. appearance and he's nothing like Joker there. I usually like Dini's writing but I have to wonder, what the hell is going on here? Robot Jokers? Joker balloons? Joker mobiles? Contrast this Joker with the one that participated in R.I.P and he doesn't even compare. Where's the bullet scar in Joker's forehead from Morrison's Batman run? Is his tongue still split in half? These seem like details that should have been picked up.
I hate this image:

I'm very close to dropping Gotham City Sirens.
Green Lantern #46: Despite my apathy for Blackest Night thus far, I actually really liked this issue. Why? For one thing, it had Hal Jordan and Sinestro in it being Hal Jordan and Sinestro. There's enough action to be part of the whole Blackest Night war without being overdone. The story moved along. The Zamarons' central power battery is destroyed by the Black Lanterns, unleashing what looks to be the love equivalent of Parallax. And finally we get to see Sinestro face off with the usurper, Mongol. Finally! Of course, the multi-ringed Mongol stomps out Sinestro at first, but since Sinestro is the power hungry, dominating fascist he is, he's enabled the yellow rings to be disabled by his own ring. Convenient. Asskicking ensues and culminates with Sinestro suggesting Mongols needs a recharge after which he drops the damn Sinestro Corp central battery on top of Mongol! Mongol is trapped, alive, in the battery until the Blackest Night crisis is over so he can't become a Black Lantern. Sinestro promises to kill him later. Then to top off all of that, Abin Sur and his sister (Amir) appear before Hal, Sinestro, Indigo-1 and Carol as Black Lanterns. Awesome.
Justice Society of America #31: I have no idea how this ended up on my pull list. I have no idea what's going on or why. I loathe Magog. But since I pulled it, I bought it. I read it. Now I regret it.
Superman #692: Um. Meh. Everyone thinks Mon-El is dead. The Guardian for some reason outs Jon Kent, Science Cop, as Mon-El to the rest of his Science Police buddies. Deep inside Project 7734, Mon-El is still alive. No surprise there. Is all of this building to something?
Wonder Woman #36: Wonder Woman has had a rough time lately. She's cut off from her gods. She has the goddess daughter of a god angry at her for getting her father killed by Zeus. Zeus has crafted Achilles as her replacement. She has relationship troubles, which leads to a little girl-time/relationship talk with Giganta. They also team up to confront Achilles and crew. Oh, Achilles is going to off her mom if Diana steps in his way again. And all of that has happened since she became one of Darkseid's Furies in Final Crisis and everything before.
Who knows when this all takes place in relation to Blackest Night, though DC has a bunch of crossovers planned. One of them is Blackest Night: Wonder Woman.
I honestly have no idea where this is going. I like Gail Simone's writing and the art here is solid. We're only seeing the beginning of the consequences of the Rise of the Olympian. My hope is that Simone is going to finally give us a Wonder Woman who undeniably stands as an equal to Superman and Batman. At least, I think that's what all of this is about. I could be wrong. Either way, I'm enjoying the ride thus far.
And finally...
The Darkness #80: I don't have an image of this cover and I'm not particularly motivated to find one. It was free. I guess Top Cow is giving it away to entice new readers. They should have titled it "The Lameness." I'm not enticed.
Well, that's it for this week. Oh. I also bought and watched Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, DC's latest animated movie. It's based on Superman/Batman #1-6, though there are changes. It was pretty good and worth watching, though I liked the original six issues more. Still, it's a solid animated comic book movie. Frankly, I still think the Wonder Woman one has been the best by far that DC has produced. There's also a preview for the next one: Justice League: Crisis on Two Worlds.

Widening Gyre blows. As I grabbed number two, I thought to myself... why?
But I got it anyway. I don't even want to open it.
I felt the same way about gotham city sirens.
Blackest Night: Titans 2 was better than titans 1, but that's like saying G HW Bush was better than G W Bush. I did the zombie kid and the tit raping. But, maybe that's just me.
The Green Lantern rocks, blackest night notwithstanding. I just can't get into the lantern corps though.
Sigh.
Next week will be better, it has to be.
I think the best thing I bought was Ultimates: 1.
I'll probably just get Green Lantern Rebirth and call it a week.
I'm saving Ultimates 2 for the next bad comic week.

Widening Gyre is just Kevin Smith giving his friend a chance to sketch a comic book. Lucky guy. Cacophony was only marginally better, but nothing like what I would have thought it to be.
No Spidey: Clone Saga? :P Its not as horrible as I thought it would be, the 1st issue is just insanely quick in pacing so you won't think too much about it.
@Mango: Ultimates 1 rocks. You don't want to touch Ultimates 3 as I've said before.

mango: To be fair, the zombie baby and the tit rape were the best parts of the issue.
I'm always happen to read a new issue of GL. I'm hoping DC backs off of these multi-issue crossovers for a while after BN.
I'm hoping to pick up Ultimates 1 next week. Maybe I'll go out and look for it this afternoon.
GL:Rebirth was pretty damn good.
SEV: I didn't know that about Widening Gyre. That's cool, though he should write a better story for the guy. The last issue of Cacophony killed the whole story for me.
Ugh. I have a hard time getting into Spiderman. I don't know. There's just something about the character that I don't like. On top of that, I'm hesitant to get sucked into another big comic universe. My comics budget is only so big. Maybe I'll pick them up in the inevitable trades.
