You know what's bullshit?

Outdoor smoking bans are bullshit, that's what.

Read that again in case you missed it. I said outdoor smoking bans.1

The policy went into effect on this campus with the beginning of the current semester. The fucktards in charge have graciously allowed us a handful of designated outdoor smoking areas, though we can kiss those goodbye in a year. Why? Because in two thousand and fucking ten, there will be no smoking anywhere on UNM's campus.

What the fuck is wrong with people?

Who bans outdoor smoking? What's being accomplished other than letting a bunch of whiny do-gooder types feel better about themselves? Fuck them! And fuck you too to all those idiots pretending to be allergic to smoke. No you're not. You just don't like it. There's a fucking difference between disliking something and being allergic, assholes. Quite pretending. I don't like your goddamn patchouli stink, you filthy hippie fucks. I'm not allergic to it. I just hate it. Get it? Do you see me trying to ban it?2

Oh, and fuck your second hand smoke-induced asthma, too. You know, maybe if you smoked more you wouldn't have such weak, pathetic lungs. I bet pot smoke doesn't hurt your precious lungs.

We need some kind of cap-and-trade program here on campus. I see plenty of idiots driving around their poorly maintained vehicles on campus. I, on the other hand, walk. How about any one that doesn't use fossil fuels to get to campus is allowed to smoke? Makes sense to me. My walking and smoking is probably still way fucking less pollution and carcinogens entering the atmosphere compared to the non-smoking douchebags driving around campus. Oh, and people that take bus get to smoke half the cigarettes that smoking non-drivers do since their pubic ride pollutes, but not as much as car drivers. Sounds like a good plan to me.3

I hope you all get cancer and die.

Endotes
1. Actually, they've banned the use of all tobacco products. That means, dipping and leaf-chewing rednecks, pipe smoking affectatious losers and old men, and cigar smoking jerks are fucked too.

2. You can replace patchouli with any other sort of repellant applied odors people wear. Or crocs or any other annoying shit I don't like. Yeah, I hate what you like and hate you for liking it. It doesn't mean I'm going to try to get it banned.

3. I have no idea what the relative pollutant output rate of any of these things is. But fuck you anyway.

Same old shit and comic books

Since I accidentally re-upped this domain for another year not too long ago, I guess I should keep posting stuff. By accidentally re-upping, I mean that my godaddy.com account is set to automatically renew whenever the fuck this domain expires. I guess I should pay attention to those godaddy emails rather than just deleting them.

So, I'm going to make an effort to get my money's worth in blogging. Since absolutely no one but spambots read this is blog, it really doesn't matter what I write. Also posting nonsense here will give me another way to procrastinate, which is always good.

Yeah, I'm still buying comic books. So what? The comic book shop I was buying at quit selling new issues. They're doing trades, back issues and other stuff now. That sucks because they were nearby. On the upside, the new place I'm using gives a 15% discount if you use Comixology, which I do anyway. So that's good. The downside is that it's forever away from my place.

Anyway, here's what I bought this week. (Bought may or may not mean "wasted money on".)

Since there are spoilers in this post, you have to click to the Continue Reading... link to get the rest. Yeah, I know there's no one reading.

How's this for retarded?

A guy in Las Cruces, NM is flying a Nazi flag and an upside down US flag in protest of what he views as the US's shift toward communism.

Here are come quotes:

“It represents communism, the politicians don't care about the American people and it's the same way Adolf Hitler got started,” said Ken Triplett of the East Mesa.

...and...

It doesn't disgrace the veterans, it doesn't disgrace my flag, or nothing,” said Triplett. “It just says the American people need to wake up and understand that communism is going to be taking over.”

Triplett said the swastika flag is strictly a communist symbol and he's not racist in anyway.

Stupid. This guy can't even differentiate between communism, fascism, etc. This seems to be an endemic problem in this country. See, for example, the teabagger rallies, that clown Glenn Beck, etc.

Where's the evidence for communism or socialism here? Was there a revolution? What industries have been nationalized? Has private property been abolished? Has some legislation been passed ending wage labor?

I don't think so.

Bailing out banks and other corporations with taxpayer money isn't socialism. Nationalizing the entire banking system would be socialization. Providing a government funded insurance option isn't socialism. Nationalizing the entire health care industry, i.e., making all heath care workers employees of the state only, would be a step toward socialism.

Capitalism in the US is under no threat, sadly.

Anyone claiming otherwise is an idiot.

Glenn Beck: Dumb and dishonest as ever

The Raw Story has reported this latest piece of lunacy broadcast by Glenn Beck:

On Sept. 11, 2009, he produced what may be his most confusing, conjecture-filled tirade yet. This time, he has somehow “connected” the dots, tying community organization ACORN, an international employees union, the City of New Orleans and former Obama green jobs director Van Jones into the Hurricane Katrina disaster

...

“Wouldn’t it be convenient, almost like they were …” began Beck. “Of course, I would neeeeeeever think, you know, anybody would ever call each other or send an e-mail to each other or work in a coordinated fashion because that’s conspiracy. Those are people that believe like, you know, Bush would blow up the World Trade Center. Those are conspiracy theorists, hypothetically, like Van Jones.”

They have audio of the whole ridiculous conspiracy theorizing in which he engages at the bottom of the page.

While his statements are seemingly too stupid to waste time on, it provides a clear example of his usual attempts to accuse without really trying to accuse. He's "hypothesizing," you see, and not really accusing because he doesn't have any real evidence, one way or another. This is the poorest form of public discourse, and I'm a guy that doesn't mind typos and profanity-laden ranting. Even worse, this guy gets paid for this shit!

It reminds me of another hypothetical accusation-without-actually-accusing that's making the rounds on the internet lately. I wasn't going to link to this, but fuck it:

Did Glenn Beck rape and murder a girl in 1990?

This site exists to try and help examine the vicious rumour that Glenn Beck raped and murdered a young girl in 1990. We don't claim to know the truth -- only that the rumour floating around saying that Glenn Beck raped and murdered a young girl in 1990 should be discussed. So we're going to do our part to try and help get to the bottom of this.

Why won't Glenn Beck deny these allegations? We're not accusing Glenn Beck of raping and murdering a young girl in 1990 - in fact, we think he didn't! But we can't help but wonder, since he has failed to deny these horrible allegations. Why won't he deny that he raped and killed a young girl in 1990?

Don't get me wrong. I don't believe this rumor at bit. There's no evidence of this accusation being grounded in fact. But then again, hypothetically, it could be true since Glenn Beck was alive in 1990 and was, hypothetically, physically capable of raping and murdering someone. Conveniently, we just don't know for a fact what did or did not happen in 1990. There certainly isn't any evidence against this rumor. But then again, I don't like conspiracy theories or rumors. It is an interesting hypothetical question though.

Hey, did you know there's a teabagger rally in DC today?

Apparently they're mad about the prospect of health care reform (a.ka. "Obamacare"), and possibly that the president is a communist, socialist, nazi, muslim, fascist, racist, negro Kenyan. Feel free to google any of these topics and Obama and prepare to read truly moronic rightwing paranoia.

God bless America.

Update: I increased the awesome of the teabagged liberty image by adding some sweet stylized flags to the teabags. I did this around 2 PM MST.

10:03 minutes of a crybaby

Check this out from Crooks and Liars:

Jesus H Christ. Is there anything more pathetic annoying than this idiots's pathetic, sobbing, ranting bullshit?

What is this asshole even talking about? There's not a goddamn coherent thought in his entire rambling performance.

Here's the real question: Does Beck really believe the shit he says?

Fuck. Someone came into my office. Lost my train of thought...

Update [9/14/09 @ 1:19]: Wow. This is a terrible post. I used pathetic twice in the same sentence. This is what happens when you try to blog from work while talking to someone else. I should probably be embarrassed. But this is a shitty blog, so I'm not. In fact, you could even say I'm proud of it.

Also, Glenn Beck is a jackass. Not even this half-assed post can get that wrong.

Good Music

I've been listening to Cloak/Dagger's "We are..." CD a lot lately. It's one of those I don't remember getting and I'm not sure why I didn't listen to it right away. Yeah, the actual release was about two years ago. But if you haven't heard it, it's new to you. They have a more recent 7" and another CD coming out before the end of the year. All of their stuff is on Jade Tree, I think.

Here are two samples.

1. Bended Knee:

2. Walk the Block:

I'll post this week's comic book pull list later today/tonight.

Comic books: 9/16/09

I meant to write this Wednesday, but that didn't work. Then I was going to write it yesterday, but that didn't work out either. I started on Friday, but then a bunch of other stuff distracted while writing. Technically I was working and work got in they way. I hate it when that happens. And finally, I just didn't yesterday.

But enough of that. Here's the new stuff I bought this week:

Spoilers below...

Damn I'm bored

I'm bored.

But you know what's not boring?

The new Batman: Arkham Asylum game. It fucking rocks! It's even written by Paul Dini. Some of the voice work, including that of Batman and Joker, are done by the same folks who did the DCU animated series work; Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill, respectively. There's a demo on the game site, so check it out and then play the real thing.

This game will kill hours of your life. I don't know why I'm not playing it now other than the fact that I feel marginally guilty about spending so much time playing this weekend.

Oh. There's also a version for consoles, but I don't know anything about that.

GOP comes out against Net Neutrality

Well, this shouldn't be a surprise:

GOP senators declare war on Net neutrality (Rawstory.com)

Six Republican senators have introduced an amendment that would block the Federal Communications Commission from implementing its recently announced Net neutrality policy.

Texas Republican Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison introduced the amendment to an appropriations bill. It would prevent the FCC from getting funding for any initiative to uphold Net neutrality. According to The Hill, the co-sponsors are Sen. Sam Brownback (R-KS), Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) Sen. John Ensign (R-NV), Sen. John Thune (R-SD) and Sen. David Vitter (R-LA).

The move appears to be an attempt to pre-empt the FCC's expected new policy to ensure that Internet service providers don't discriminate between different types of information on their networks.

This is a fine example of class warfare, a term that gets thrown around usually when any legislation or political position might marginally favor working people. But, class warfare is ubiquitous in our society and regularly unnoticed when it's the owning class, the capitalist class, that legislates in it's interests. In this case, we have a group of flunkies for corporations attempting to create regulation that mandates corporate financial interests are upheld despite the consequences for everyone else. Corporate control of communications for profit is more important, apparently, than either consumers' access to publicly owned frequencies and networks or access to bandwidth purchased by consumers. So much for the supposedly sacrosanct contract. Ever notice that it's always big business that sets the terms and is free to adjust at whim? Talk about an unequal relationship.

Another fine example of warfare against workers is the battle being waged over access to health care, where health care corporations and those duped into supporting their financial cause are adamantly working against relatively minor reforms they label as "socialism."

Why are these instances so rarely named as such? Sure people get worked up when either party--and it is a bipartisan problem--works to promote corporate interests, but why isn't this type of class warfare called out for what it is? Why do we accept our interests are always secondary to the capitalists'?

It's past time to turn the tables.

The Raw Story » Census worker found hanged; ‘fed’ scrawled on body

A U.S. Census worker found hanging from a tree near a Kentucky cemetery had the word "fed" scrawled on his chest, a law enforcement official said Wednesday, and the FBI is investigating whether he was a victim of anti-government sentiment.

[From The Raw Story » Census worker found hanged; ‘fed’ scrawled on body]

What. the. fuck?

Obama's presidency sure has stirred up the crazies hasn't it?

Update [9/23/09 @ 7:15]: Apparently some on the right are terrified that the 2010 census will be used to round up US citizens.

At least one elected official is planning at least a partial boycott.

More Bachmann

There's always the possibility that this apparent crime isn't about the 2010 census. But right now it has that appearance.

It's about time

AT&T finally got off their collective asses and enabled MMS for iPhone. I don't really send text message much less pics, so this release isn't that big of a deal for me. Still, it is nice to have basic features found on lesser phones in case I wanted to do so.

Maybe tethering will show up before the next millenium.

Another useless post

I really need to cleanup the stylesheet and layout of this shitty blog.

This weeks comics soon.

Maybe you'll just disappear...

G20 security officials took responsibility Friday afternoon for a video that seemed to depict US troops 'kidnapping' a protester.

The military was not involved in the incident, but G20 security did acknowledge that "law enforcement officers from a multi-agency tactical response team" had detained a protester they said was believed to be vandalizing a store.

Video posted at YouTube shows onlookers calling out "what the fuck" and "what the fuck is wrong with you?" as people in camo uniforms haul a protester along by his collar, shove him into the back seat of a car, and rapidly drive off.

Comics 9/23/09

Last week I bought some comics and now I'm finally getting around to saying something about them.

Possible spoilers below the fold.

And another thing...

So I bought and read Ultimate Avengers #1 & #2. Turns out it wasn't bad. I don't know exactly what's going on, especially in terms of backstory, but it was an enjoyable read. So I'll read a few more issues to see what happens. I might even buy some Ultimates trades. That's the background stuff, right?

Television 9/25/09

As if this blog hasn't gotten lame enough, here's a post about what I watched on television. And by watched on television I mean downloaded on the internet and watched on my computer.

Just in case I get spoilery and one of the two of you haven't watched either of these yet, I've split the post using the lame "below the fold" or "continue reading" function or whatever movable type throws in there. Fuck blogs are lame.

Also, Fox can suck a dick for canceling Terminator:SCC.
